James E. Logan Jr., son of the late Bertha Johnson Logan and James E. Logan Sr. was born on September 26, 1942, in Sumter, South Carolina. “Jimmy”, as he was affectionately called, was the second child of four children. He was educated in Sumter, S.C. Public School System and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1960.
After graduating from high school, at the age of 17, Jimmy decided to relocate to Brooklyn, New York and live with his Uncle Jake and Aunt Lila. He pursued a corporate career in banking, while attending NY University and Baruch College where he got his certification in Finances.
Jimmy worked at Chemical Bank and furthered his career at U.S. Trust Company where he worked for 35 years elevating to the position of Vice President. The company was bought out by Bank of America where he continued to work until retirement.
Jimmy was a sports enthusiast. His favorite sports were basketball, football, and tennis. He loved to bowl, joining a bowling league where he won numerous awards and Trophies.
In his early 20’s Jimmy got married, and to that union a daughter, Lisa Logan-Rogers, was born.
Jimmy enjoyed life to the fullest, by dancing, traveling, and spreading laughter with friends and relatives near and far. That gave him a great sense of humor and wit.
Throughout his life, becoming single again, Jimmy met Jonnie Weiters. They traveled by way of the subway to Wall Street into Manhattan every morning for years. Over the years, they were both single parents, raising their daughters, Lisa and Latresse.
Years later, they reconnected, started dating and were inseparable, until Jimmy popped the question “Will you Marry me?” Of course, she said yes. Then on March 15, 2003, they were united in holy matrimony at Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church in Sumter, S.C., the church he attended as a young child. The couple had 20 years of a blissful marriage.
Sadly, on September 22, 2023, while in North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset, New York, with his loving wife by his side, James E. Logan, Jr. peacefully departed this earthly life and joined the ancestral ranks of his parents and his eldest sister, Constance Roberta “Bert” Boatner. This wonderful man now leaves to cherish fond memories, his wife Jonnie W. Logan; his daughter Lisa Logan-Rogers; a bonus daughter Latresse Hopson; sons-in-law; Keith Rogers and Kareem Hopson; grandsons: Armani Gladden, and Kahari Rogers; one sister, Bevergene Chatman; three brothers: Raymond Logan (Loretta) Roosevelt Canty (Maude), all of Sumter, S.C. and Roy Canty (Alice), of Fletcher, N.C.; a special sister, Rhonda Presha (Arnett), of Columbia, S.C.; godchildren: Natalie Bowman and Christopher Hall; a doting niece Ashleigh Starr Kearney, his furry love, “Mocha”; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jimmy will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him.
